Eighty years ago the war ended. On 9 May 2025, the anniversary year, the Immortal Regiment in Vienna took to the streets in numbers never seen here before.
According to the police, 1,500 people took part in the march — three times as many as in 2024. By our own count, around 2,100.

Under the Victory Banner
The day was held under the Victory Banner — an exact replica of the banner raised over the Reichstag in May 1945. In April it was handed over to the Regiment's coordinators in Moscow.
The day began on Maria-Theresien-Platz: compatriots and friends of Russia gathered there, and a concert set the festive mood.

Along the Ring to Schwarzenbergplatz
From there the column marched along Vienna's main boulevard, the Ringstrasse, past the Vienna State Opera, to the monument to the Soviet liberator soldier on Schwarzenbergplatz. Portraits of frontline soldiers, flags, and the number “80” at the head of the column.

At the monument
On Schwarzenbergplatz the march ended with a rally and a festive concert; later a choir performed.

The Victory anniversary in Vienna brought generations and countries together in remembering the heroes of the war.
