56 soldiers, ten of them nameless: a clean-up day in Jedlesee

On 13 April 1945 the Vienna Offensive came to an end, and the Austrian capital was liberated from Nazi occupation. Eighty years later, on the eve of that date, on Saturday 12 April 2025, we went to the Soviet war grave in Vienna-Jedlesee.

56 Soviet soldiers rest here. Ten of them are unknown.

Moss, railings, flowers

The site had long been neglected. The clean-up volunteers cleared the memorial slabs of moss, straightened the railings and planted fresh flowers.

Dignity instead of neglect

The grave has been transformed. Once again it looks the way a resting place of Soviet soldiers should look — with dignity and grateful remembrance.

Eternal memory to the Soviet soldiers — the liberators of Europe!
